Grow It Alone is a diary of my Family’s journey towards a more self sufficient, more independent, more enjoyable life. It began as a record of my experimentation with growing my own fruit and veg, and now that we’ve got a bigger garden, we’ve got the opportunity to provide much more food for ourselves.

The Plans

Whilst we love flowering plants, we would prefer to get a little more from our garden, so starting this year, we’ve decided to grow as many of our own edible things as possible! Making good use of all the resources we have available to see just how much we can provide for ourselves and whether growing our own fruit and veg can save us money and free us from the shackles of the local supermarket.

So at our disposal, we have…

• A 3 x 3m area for our chickens… Coup under construction as we speak.
• An 8x6ft Green house, with slabbed floor, soon to be partially slabbed so we can grow tomatoes directly in the ground.
• Space for 5 raised beds where the current chicken coup/aviary is.
• Many tubs and planters… too many maybe
• 2 Small cold frames
